The International Conference on Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation (IPIN2024) was held in Hong Kong, China, from October 14 to 17, 2024, and we presented our research results.
IPIN is an leading international conference focusing on indoor positioning technology.
Our research was accepted as a WIP (Work in Progress) paper, and we presented it at the poster session held in the morning of October 15th!
This research is an extension of the sequential placement optimization method for BLE beacons that we have presented so far (at UbiComp2023). While our previous research optimized for maximizing the radio coverage of BLE beacons, the main point of this research is that it optimizes for maximizing indoor positioning performance. The second point we would like to emphasize is that we devised a method to improve performance in relation to the number of sensors installed by also deleting redundant BLE beacons, which is common in sequential optimization problems.
Through evaluation using real radio wave data at the laboratory level, we were able to confirm that our approach improved performance by an average of 10.9% (using the size of the area with good positioning accuracy as an indicator).
